The Tempest - BBC Audiobooks (2 Hours -
Unabridged)
BBC radio has a unique heritage when it comes to Shakespeare. Since 1923, when the newly formed company broadcast its first full-length play,
generations of actors and producers have honed and perfected the craft of making Shakespeare to be heard.
Raging storms and rich, beautiful music combine to magical effect in this radio production of Shakespeare's allegorical last play, where
mystical forces work to restore harmony and order to an estranged community.
The play is introduced by Richard Eyre, former Director of the Royal National Theatre, and the accompanying booklet includes a scene-by-scene
synopsis, full character analysis, brief biographies of the leading actors and of Shakespeare himself, as well as an essay from the producer on
their interpretation of the play.
Revitalised, original and comprehensive, this is Shakespeare for the new millennium.

Interesting Facts About The Bard:
William Shakespeare is believed to have been born in the Shakespeare family home in Henley Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, England.
As births were not formally registered in England during this time, Shakespeare's actual date of birth cannot be substantiated. The birthday
of William Shakespeare has been set as April 23rd 1564.
He was the third child of John and Mary Shakespeare. Unfortunately, his two older siblings, Joan and Margaret died of the Bubonic Plague (the
Black Death). This is attributed to the fact that the Bubonic Plague was often transmitted by the fleas that lived on animals and Shakespeare's
father was a retailer of farm produce such as animal hides. The plague not only caused two of Shakespeare's sisters to die in their infancy, but
also one of his brothers at the age of 27.
William Shakespeare is, therefore, not surprisingly reported to suffer from a terrible fear of the Plague throughout his life. Even William's
own son, Hamnet died at the young age of eleven from this terrible disease (source: william-shakespeare.org.uk)
